Methodology
The Australian AI Visibility Index measures one thing: which businesses the major AI assistants recommend when Australians ask who to hire. Here is exactly how each ranking is produced.
Every ranking is built from live answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, the four AI assistants Australians actually use to find and shortlist businesses.
For each city and industry we put several hire-intent questions to each assistant, phrased the way a real customer would (for example, who are the best electricians in Melbourne). Every question names the city.
We read every answer and tally the distinct businesses each assistant recommends. A business's count is the number of separate answers that named it, across all assistants and question variants.
Businesses are ordered by how many answers named them, then by how many different assistants did. The more AI recommends a business across the major assistants, the higher it ranks.
A ranking is only useful if it lists businesses you can actually hire. We exclude:
AI assistants change their answers as they learn. We re-run every ranking each month and date every page, so you always know which month the data reflects.
We publish a ranking only where the assistants genuinely name businesses. For some professions AI declines to recommend specific names. Where that happens, we leave the ranking out rather than pad it.
These rankings reflect how often AI assistants recommend a business, not our own judgment of its quality. Being named often by AI is what we measure, and increasingly it is how customers decide who to call.
